Building Coops

March 19, 2009

It used to be that I couldn’t find a single chicken coop plan anywhere online.

And now, I’m finding there are LOTS and LOTS of them.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

Double Decker Chicken Coop

Actual Step-by-Step mobile chicken coop plans
This is a mobile, 6-10 chicken coop that can easily be picked up and moved by two people. And it can fit in even the smallest of backyards or side-yards. The compact shape and design of this coop also makes it perfect for fitting in your yard, or garden, so your chickens can fertilize the ground right under the coop. Read on to find out how, with this 29 page report.

This one has some nicer, more professionally designed plans:

Building your own chicken coop is not as easy as hammering some wood and wire mesh together. You need to take into account materials, insulation, ventilation, lighting, positioning, nesting, perches, litter collection and protection from the elements and other animals.

Fortunately, the guy who designed this coop has a few years of experience in poultry farming, so he created this easy to follow guide to building your own perfect chicken coop.

And then I really like the look and design of this Chicken Coop Plan also:

Catawba Chicken Coop

People think chickens are smelly, messy, and loud beasts. This could not be further from the truth. Because I live in a town with livestock ordinances, I had to find a way to convince my neighbors that chickens weren’t such a bad thing. That’s why I designed the Catawba ConvertiCoop “Brougham Edition” to be the Cadillac of chicken coop plans.

Owning a Catawba Brougham ConvertiCoop addresses two of the three major objections your neighbors will have against chickens. Because it is highly mobile, the smell and mess are a non-issue. The chickens will not stay in one location long enough to foul the area. A firm “NO ROOSTERS” policy will eliminate the third objection.

All the best,
